Whitestarr
Whitestarr EP
During the past few years, we have seen poor film versions of Starsky & Hutch and The Dukes of Hazzard -- to say nothing of VH-1's I Love the '70s. I guess the 1970s pop culture nostalgia market must be booming.
Enter Whitestarr, whose sound is very consciously an imitation of classic 1970s rock, with heavy doses of Southern rock and testosterone.
I kept waiting for the big guitar solo, but it never came. Instead, the focus remained solidly on the vocals and lyrics, both of which fail to inspire. The hooks are simple and catchy enough that, if you aren't careful, you will have half of the chorus to "Luv Machine" or "Sunshine Girl" stuck in your head for hours.
Although this EP is enjoyable enough to listen to, Whitestarr are a pretty forgetable band. It falls into that category of music that I can listen to without complaining if somebody else plays it, but I would not ever play it myself.
