Penalty Crusade

Contributor: Valentine

As I started listening to The Dalloways' Penalty Crusade, I was brought back to a time when I roamed my college campus in the rain, listening to the college radio station and discovering the good music of the '80s and '90s that top 40 radio had not exposed me to. It is now the 21st century. Bands are still playing dreamy pop music like this, and all the ones I have heard are doing it fairly well. The Dalloways are no exception.

So what does dreamy pop music sound like, you ask? No, you didn’t ask? I’ll tell you anyway, so shut up and listen. The guitars jangle. There are pretty, little lead-ish parts. The singer has an almost whiny voice but still sounds really good. There are high, falsetto-ish backup vocals doing oohs and ahhs. The music is not fast, but it isn’t slow.

So what makes Penalty Crusade stand out from other bands that sound like this? I don’t know. If you like this kind of stuff, then you could probably add this to your list of bands to check out, and you would not be disappointed. If you hate this kind of stuff, then steer clear. If you don’t know what this kind of stuff is -- but you are intrigued -- then by all means, look into The Dalloways. You will be starting at a good reference point.
